Pollyanna Gorman attended college at the
University of North Carolina at Pembroke, a small school about an hour
east of Fayetteville, where she lived with her two brothers, a sister
and her mother and went to high school. She graduated from UNCP
with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education. While in
college, Pollyanna was elected President of Sigma Alpha Iota (a music
fraternity for women), became a student member of MENC (Music Educators
National Conference), made the Dean’s List and was chosen for Who’s Who
in American Colleges and Universities. While attending high school
and later at UNCP, she studied French horn and trumpet.
Pollyanna spent the first 7 years of life in
Fullerton. Her parents met and married in Fullerton and most of
her relatives have spent their entire lives in the Southern California
area. Pollyanna would often visit for vacation and really liked
the environment. After graduating from college, she decided that
the best place to play the music that she loved so much would be Orange
County, California and moved back 10 days after graduation.
Since moving to back California, Pollyanna has
been a part of a number of musical groups. Among these are:

Personal Thoughts
My life revolves around performing music and
entertaining people. It gives me the greatest joy.
I love to conduct this group. From inception, the
Pops has been an energetic and wonderful group of people. I am so
thankful that I have had the opportunity to be a part of something "new
and different" to the concert band circuit. I feel strongly that the
vision of the Pops from the very beginning, making music that people
will enjoy, continues under my direction. Being the only woman Community
Concert Band conductor in the Orange County region has proven an
experience. But it’s the people, the music, the audience and the fun
that makes it all worthwhile.
I look forward to the coming years as Conductor of
the Pops. We’ve got great things in store for the future. I am honored
that the members and board has entrusted me to make it happen.
